When you need a windshield replacement, you'll usually hear two options: OEM and aftermarket. The difference can affect fit, clarity, durability, and price. Here's what you need to know.

What Is OEM Glass?

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) glass is made by the same company that produced your car's original windshield. If your Honda came with a windshield made by Pilkington, an OEM replacement would also be Pilkington glass made to Honda's exact specifications.

OEM glass offers: exact fit with no gaps or alignment issues, identical thickness, tint, and optical clarity, proper compatibility with ADAS sensors and cameras, and the same structural performance as the original.

What Is Aftermarket Glass?

Aftermarket glass is manufactured by third-party companies to fit your vehicle. Quality varies widely — some aftermarket glass is nearly identical to OEM, while budget options may have slight differences in thickness, tint, or optical clarity.

Aftermarket glass offers: lower price (typically 20–40% less than OEM), wide availability for most makes and models, and adequate quality from reputable manufacturers.

When Should You Choose OEM?

We recommend OEM glass when: your vehicle has ADAS features (lane departure, auto-braking, etc.), you drive a luxury or European vehicle where fit precision matters, you want guaranteed optical clarity with no distortion, or your vehicle is leased and requires OEM parts.

When Is Aftermarket OK?

Quality aftermarket glass works well for: older vehicles (pre-2018) without ADAS, budget-conscious replacements where you want a reliable windshield at a lower cost, and common vehicles (Camry, Civic, F-150) where aftermarket options are well-tested.
